Hello! I’m Steve Stopps and I have lived in Leamington Spa for more than 15 years.
I first came here 20 years ago on my way back from the infamous Southport Soul Weekender, and have felt at home here ever since.
Starting DJ’ing back in the 80’s, I was part of the the transition from Electro to House. However, Soul and Jazz have always been my passion.
I was fortunate enough to work in Shoreditch in the 90’s during the rise of the Acid Jazz scene. It was so inspiring to be part of such amazing cross pollination of music and art; the echo’s of which are still felt today.
Not content with standing on the sidelines, I started learning the Trumpet in 1995 after watching Donald Byrd performing with Guru’s Jazzmatazz. Since then, I have been lucky enough to watch so many great artists including; Courtney Pine, Gil Scott-Heron, Galliano, Terry Callier and Roy Ayres. I have also played in bands of all shapes and sizes.
Music has always played an important part of my life, and I hope to share the very best of rare groove and jazz with you.
Music that has been sampled.
Music that has formed the foundations of contemporary culture for decades.
Don’t worry, it took me a long while to appreciate such a broad spectrum of styles, some of it will make you dance, some will sound surprisingly familiar and some will challenge what you think music is.
If you don’t like everything you hear, stick with me.
Music is a road well worth traveling.
Some of the best things in life are an acquired taste, music is no different.
Thank you for listening!
